In het kort

Discover flaxseed oil for skin and hair, cold pressing, oil blends, oxidation, storage, and safe cosmetic use.

What is flaxseed oil?

Flaxseed oil is pressed from the seeds of Linum usitatissimum. The PureOil® variety is cold-pressed, comes from the Netherlands, and has a mild, nutty natural scent. In cosmetic routines, flaxseed oil can be used for skin, hair, nails, and massage.

An important characteristic is that flaxseed oil is relatively sensitive to oxidation. Freshness and storage are therefore extra important.

How is flaxseed oil made?

The seeds are cold-pressed. Due to this gentle processing, the oil retains its natural color and scent, but also the unsaturated fatty acid profile that makes it more sensitive to oxygen, heat, and light.

Flaxseed oil for the skin

Start with one to three drops on slightly damp skin. The oil can be used pure or mixed with jojoba. You can use more on the body, but a thin layer is usually sufficient.

Flaxseed oil for hair

Use one drop in hair ends or mix with another hair oil. As a pre-shampoo treatment, you can leave a small amount on briefly and then wash it out. Too much can weigh down fine hair.

Combining

Jojoba, grapeseed, and argan are practical combinations. By using flaxseed oil as part of a blend, you can adjust the texture and ease of use.

Practical routines

Face

Two drops on damp skin, preferably from a fresh and well-stored bottle.

Hair ends

Distribute a very small amount into the tips.

Body

Mix with jojoba or sweet almond for a more spreadable body oil.

How do you recognize oxidation?

Watch out for a significantly altered scent, a paint-like or rancid note, or a noticeable change in quality. Do not continue to use the oil if you suspect it has oxidized.

Storage

Store flaxseed oil in a cool, dark place and keep it well-sealed. Do not leave the bottle open for longer than necessary and prevent moisture from getting into the packaging. Note the opening date when you are using multiple oils.

Safe use

Test locally first if you have sensitive skin. This guide is for external cosmetic use and not for ingestion.

PureOil tip

Write the opening date on the bottle; proper storage is especially important for linseed oil.
