What is jasmine oil?
Jasmine oil has an intensely floral scent profile and is made from jasmine flowers. The PureOil® product page lists Jasminum officinale flower oil and describes the extraction method as the extraction of jasmine flowers into an absolute. This is important because, technically, an absolute is different from a classically steam-distilled essential oil.
Jasmine is known as a powerful floral scent. A small amount is often sufficient in perfume-like blends, massage oil, or a scent routine.
How is jasmine absolute made?
Jasmine flowers are delicate and are often extracted rather than steam-distilled. An absolute is a concentrated aromatic extract. The precise composition and safe skin dosage may differ from those of a steam-distilled oil.
What does jasmine smell like?
The scent is rich, full, floral, warm, and sensual. In perfume terms, jasmine acts as a pronounced heart note. Too much can become heavy, so start low.
Jasmine in aromatherapy
Jasmine is primarily used for its scent experience and atmosphere. Small studies on scent, mood, or relaxation do not constitute evidence that jasmine treats any medical condition. Use aromatherapy as a scent and wellness routine, not as a replacement for medical care.
Diffuser
When the product is suitable for your diffuser, start with one drop and optionally combine with bergamot or lavender. Ventilate the room.
Jasmine for the skin
Never use jasmine undiluted. Mix at a very low dosage with jojoba or another carrier oil. Because absolutes are highly concentrated, restraint is especially important.
Jasmine for hair
One drop in a larger amount of hair oil can primarily add a luxurious scent. There is insufficient strong evidence to describe jasmine as a hair growth treatment.
Scent combinations
Bergamot makes jasmine fresher, lavender softer, patchouli deeper, and sandalwood warmer. Mandarin provides a sweeter citrus opening.
Quality and storage
Check the botanical name, extraction form, packaging, and scent. Store in a cool, dark place and keep tightly closed.
Safety
Use at a low dosage, do not ingest based on this guide, avoid the eyes and mucous membranes, and patch test a skin blend first.
