What is sea buckthorn oil?
Sea buckthorn oil is made from Hippophae rhamnoides. The PureOil® variant is cold-pressed from sea buckthorn berries, originates from India, and has a fresh, slightly fruity, and subtly herbal scent. The oil is particularly notable for its strong natural yellow to orange-brown color.
How is sea buckthorn oil made?
The PureOil® product information specifies cold pressing of sea buckthorn berries. Because fruit oil contains natural pigments, the color can be intense. A small amount is therefore usually enough.
Sea buckthorn oil for the face
Preferably use one drop mixed with a more neutral oil such as jojoba. Pure and generous use is often unnecessary and can temporarily leave a color residue.
For dry skin
Mix a small portion of sea buckthorn with argan or rosehip for a richer evening blend.
For light skin and textiles
Be aware of potential color transfer. Let the oil absorb well before coming into contact with light-colored bedding or clothing.
Sea buckthorn oil for hair
Use very sparingly on the ends or as a small addition to a hair oil. On very light hair, the natural color may be temporarily visible.
Combining
Jojoba is an excellent diluting base. Argan, rosehip, and grapeseed oil are also suitable for spreading the intense color and rich texture.
Practical routines
Face
Mix one drop of sea buckthorn oil with three to five drops of jojoba.
Hair
Use one drop in a larger amount of neutral hair oil.
Body
Mix a small portion of sea buckthorn into jojoba or almond oil.
Quality and storage
Look for Hippophae rhamnoides fruit oil, cold pressing, and dark packaging. Store in a cool, dark place. The strong natural color is part of the product, but a rancid odor is not.
Safety
Test locally first. Be aware of color transfer to skin, clothing, and towels. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
